Soy Processing

 Adding Value to Soy

In 2008, NEI established the first full-fat soy flour factory in Kabul. Since then, NEI has built 10 soy factories with local partners. All factories hire local staff, including female workers, and NEI supports local soy farmers by purchasing their soybeans. In 2015, NEI introduced soy oil processing.

In 2016, NEI built a soy-based poultry feed factory. This feed utilizes bee-jee, a by-product of the soy milk manufacturing process. Bee-jee is a high-protein ingredient that cost-effectively increases the protein content of poultry feed. It can now be sourced domestically and no longer needs to be imported.

In 2018, NEI constructed Afghanistan's first shelf-stable soy milk factory, which now produces 40,000 pouches of soy milk per day.
